  • Sidney/North Saanich Library launches Scientist-in-Residence Program
    First scientist is Dr. Sophia Johannessen, a geochemical oceanographer at Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Institute of Ocean Sciences (IOS) in North Saanich.  
    Next talk (Title: The changing coastal ocean) by Dr. Johannessen is February 17, 2 – 3 pm

  • Music symbol (a beamed eighth note)2025 Skills Canada British Columbia Provincial Medalist List, including four people from North Saanich: Bronze for Ruben Brooks, Callum Fell, Venay Grills from North Saanich Middle School for Jr.Skills/Wind Turbine, and Silver for Drishti Balaiah from Parkland Secondary School for Public Speaking
  • Music symbol (a beamed eighth note)Local author, Tracey Lindberg, has been appointed to the jury of the prestigious CBC Short Story prize. Maria Reva and Terry Fallis are the other two members of the jury, which will select the shortlist and the winner in the spring of 2026. The winner will receive $6,000 from the Canada Council for the Arts, a two-week writing residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and have their work published on CBC Books.
  • Former provincial MLA Adam Olsen successfully defended his M.Sc. Degree at Royal Roads, entitled “ÍY SĆÁ (Good Work): A Study of Emergent Leadership”
